Why the Process Matters
The best immersive installations feel effortless to visitors, but behind every magical moment is a rigorous, multi-phase process.
At Canopy Creative, we specialise in taking ambitious ideas and transforming them into fully realised, multi-room experiences that blend technology, storytelling, and physical design.

This post takes you behind the scenes of how we deliver a complete immersive installation, from blank page to opening day.
Phase 1: Discovery & Creative Development
Every successful installation begins with understanding the vision and the audience.
Client Goals:
Increase foot traffic
Boost brand perception
Create a cultural attraction
Audience Profile:
Families with young childrens
Adult entertainment seekers
Educational groups
Experience Scope:
5 Immersive Rooms
Specific and Individually themed spaces with room theme accurate interactivity.
LCD and LED Displays, 5.1 Spatial Audio Design, Forced Perspective Custom Media.
Over 165+ Pieces of Concept art and design
We use workshops and creative strategy sessions to shape a core concept and define the narrative arc of the experience.
Phase 2: Concept Art & Storyboarding
Before a single asset is built, we visualise the experience:
Concept Art: High-quality illustrations of every scene and room to lock down mood, colour, and design.
Storyboards: Sequential frames showing exactly how visitors will move through the experience.
Experience Mapping: A flow diagram showing room order, audience movement, and timed interactions.
At this stage, the creative vision becomes tangible — ensuring client, creative, and technical teams are aligned.
Phase 3: Technical Planning
Immersive installations are part art, part engineering. Our technical team works alongside the creative team to ensure the magic is possible — and reliable.
We plan for:
Projection Mapping Design — calculating throw distances, angles, and coverage
LED Wall/Volume Setup — pixel pitch, resolution, brightness, and mounting solutions
Media Server Integration — synchronising video, audio, and interactivity across devices
Lighting & Sound Design — layering mood and emphasis to guide the audience experience
Phase 4: Asset Production
Once the designs are locked, we begin full-scale asset production:
CGI & VFX Animation — rendering worlds, characters, and effects
3D Modelling — props, environments, and set pieces
Audio Design — voiceovers, music, and ambient soundscapes
Fabrication — building the physical sets and interactive elements
Everything is produced to the specifications determined in the planning phase — no guesswork, no surprises.
Phase 5: Installation & Integration
The physical build begins. This is where the digital and physical worlds merge:
Installing projection equipment, LED walls, and sound systems
Mounting set pieces and dressing rooms for realism
Testing media playback and interactivity in sync
Running full dress rehearsals with performers or staff
By the time visitors arrive, the system has been tested under every possible condition.
Case Example: Wundrful World of Christmas - An Immersive Experience
When we created Wundrful World of Christmas for Wundr in Sydney, we applied this exact process to deliver:
Four themed rooms in just 10 weeks
40 minutes of cinematic animation
160+ concept art pieces
Integrated live performance, projection mapping, and interactive sets
The result was a location-based entertainment experience that boosted seasonal foot traffic and became a talking point across the city.
Why Process Equals Results
Skipping steps may save time in the short term — but it risks creative misalignment, technical failure, or underwhelming visitor impact. By following a proven process, we can guarantee creative consistency, technical reliability, and audience satisfaction.
If you have a vision for a multi-room immersive experience, we can bring it to life, on time, on budget, and with maximum impact.
